Abby Barratt is turning heads in Denver real estate. Within just two years, she has quickly soared in the industry, capturing the 2023 DMAR Rookie of the Year and 2022 Five Star Professionals Rising Star award. Her background in wealth management, coupled with a deep-rooted passion for helping people make smart financial decisions, primed her for the business, contributing to her swift ascent.

 

Abby spent seven years in wealth management, a career path she embarked upon after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin. Having grown up in Austin, Texas, she attributes much of her professional drive and her adaptable approach to family life to her parents’ influence.

 

“My dad is the hardest worker I know, and I remember him always busting his tail to give us the best life possible,” recalls Abby.  “My mom devoted her life to her kids. She had a "have baby, will travel" mentality, which I believe shaped me into the mother I am today.”

 

After her successful tenure in wealth management, Abby faced a pivotal moment in life, relocating from Texas to Colorado and sparking a significant career shift. Not wanting to continue in wealth management, Abby found herself drawn to the real estate industry. While she was always fascinated with the idea of using money to make money, after purchasing her first home she became more intrigued with using home ownership to generate equity and wealth.

 

“Homeownership helped me gain equity and I experienced firsthand how I could use it as a steppingstone to go from a starter home to a dream home in just a short period of time,” explains Abby. “I knew I wanted to help others reach their goals through homeownership as well. I also love interior design, architecture, and people, so real estate just felt like the perfect fit.”

 

Equipped with her father’s work ethic and her mother’s flexible, can-do attitude, Abby started studying for her real estate exam right after she had her third child in July of 2021. She obtained her license and joined Kristen Abell’s team at Compass in January of 2022 and was instantly off to the races.

 

Prior experience notwithstanding, Abby credits her team lead, Kristen Abell, along with her fellow teammates and managing brokers for much of her success today. “I have all their numbers on speed dial,” she emphasizes. “Whether it's a legal question, help with growing my business, or really anything at all, they are all there to support me and guide me.”

 

Abby is currently passionate about growing her business through farming. She is just now starting to see the results of that work and finds it incredibly fulfilling to walk alongside families through each stage of life. She especially loves helping first-time homebuyers achieve their dream of homeownership.

 

Abby’s biggest challenge thus far has been navigating the current market, or more specifically, the differing expectations of buyers and sellers and what they think the market is or should be. While working with people presents the greatest number of challenges for Abby, it is also the source of her greatest joy.

 

“Funny how people can be my biggest challenge, but also my favorite part,” expresses Abby. “I’m a people person to my core, and helping people make such a monumental decision brings me great joy.”

 

This people-centric approach to Abby’s business is best exemplified in a recent review she received from one of her clients, who said that he could tell Abby didn’t just want to close a deal but truly wanted to help and advocate for him. It is this kind of sentiment and heartfelt impression that Abby aims to leave on everyone she meets.

 

Outside of real estate, Abby is fully devoted to her family. She and her husband, Nolan, have three children – Tatum, Owen, and Drew. As a family, they enjoy hiking, skiing, and traveling. Dance parties and singing loudly in the car are among their favorite activities as well. While the boys keep them rather busy in this phase of life, Abby cherishes the time she can escape with Nolan on a wine-tasting trip.

 

A self-proclaimed country music and Taylor Swift fan, Abby also maintains an active lifestyle, having completed three half marathons and aspiring to run a full marathon. Expressing her fondness for trying new restaurants in Denver, Abby quips about eating being a hobby as well.  

 

As Abby continues her ascent in the real estate industry, her unique combination of professional acumen and personal care will continue to pay dividends, taking her – as well as her clients – to heights not yet known. It will be exciting to see all she will continue to accomplish.
