Ruby Davis
Grind. Hustle. Execute. These words hang on Ruby Davis’s wall and serve as daily inspiration for her to succeed and grow as an entrepreneur in real estate. Ruby has learned the importance of putting in the work and building relationships to attain her goals. Ruby believes that continual learning is paramount in this business. “Real estate is constantly changing and every situation is different so you need to keep learning and then implement what you learn so you can be successful.” Ruby takes great pride in the fact that she is currently two classes away from completing her GRI designation.
Ruby knows that her work isn’t just about her. She leverages her strong people skills to connect with her clients to listen, to educate them, and to keep their best interests top of mind. “People have shared with me that I’m easy to talk to, I listen well, and I truly care for my clients. I work to match buyers with the right home based on their wants and needs. I educate my sellers on the importance of preparing their home and pricing it appropriately in order for it to sell.”
Ruby’s interest in real estate began in her early 20’s when she bought her first property with her oldest brother Robert in Rockford, Illinois. Shortly after that first purchase, she sold that home, got married, and relocated with her military husband. Years later, in 2002, the couple moved to Colorado with their two young children at the time (their third child would come soon after) and her husband was stationed at Fort Carson. They bought a home in Fountain and the realtor did such a phenomenal job that Ruby was inspired to finally take the step to explore a career in real estate for herself. She shared, “I love working with people and I love looking at houses and that's what drew me into it.” In 2003 while her then-husband was deployed, Ruby got her real estate license and started her career part-time at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.
After working at Coldwell Banker for about a year, Ruby transitioned to a local real estate office, New Home Associates Inc, which had a real estate kiosk in Citadel Mall. Between 2005 and 2010, she met a lot of clients at that kiosk. She recalled, “Back then, mall traffic was pretty good and I was interacting with a lot of people who wanted to purchase or sell a home. A lot of people still remember my face from when I was sitting at the mall,” she laughed.
Prior to real estate, Ruby worked at a couple of different call centers. It was her manager at Bank of America who gave her the push she needed to step into her real estate career full time. Ruby remembers it clearly: “I was working third shift at the call center so I used to fall asleep on the phones. My supervisor at the time, Harolyn, - who I actually sold a condo to - said to me, ‘Ruby you need to make a choice … real estate or customer service … because you keep falling asleep on the phones and it's starting to look like I'm showing you favoritism!’ It was then that I gave my two weeks notice and decided to do real estate full time. My children were young so it allowed me to have some flexibility with my schedule so I could be there for them.”
Ruby acknowledged that it was time to make a move and it ended up being the best decision she could have made. “One thing I really love about real estate is that you control your own destiny. You treat people how you want to be treated and the money will come.” Ruby enjoys guiding first time buyers through the process and ensuring they get their questions answered. She has seen many of her first time buyers become repeat clients. “If you do your job well, follow up, and maintain a relationship they will come back to you or they’ll refer family and friends based on your service to them.” Ruby also enjoys working with military clients and has worked with people relocating to Colorado from overseas and other locations. Having prior experience being a military spouse, she knows the importance of traveling and moving around. “You want to trust the professional that's going to help guide you even if you're not there yet.”
Ruby was born and raised in Chicago and is the youngest of four children. Two of her siblings, Robert and Patricia, are deceased so it’s just her and her brother Vincent now. Her mother was a hard worker and a strong influence in Ruby’s life. “She raised us as a single mother and overcame a lot of struggles. She always believed in me and was my biggest supporter in my real estate business and in life. She always showed unconditional love for all of us and spoke life into me.” Ruby and her brother had the pleasure of gifting their mother with her first home in May, 2022. Ruby’s mother lived 70 long years before passing away in late November of 2023.
Ruby’s three grown children, ages 26, 21, and 20, are her biggest motivators. “They are why I get up and do what I do. I want to show them that with hard work and belief in yourself that you can accomplish anything!” Ruby’s daughter Patricia was in the Air Force and is in the reserves now; she is at Peterson AFB and has a civilian job in logistics. She is working toward her Bachelors Degree and will be done in May of this year. Her oldest son Charles will graduate from CSU Pueblo in May and her youngest son Elijah is in his second year of College at the School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota.
People may be surprised to hear that Ruby appreciates her solitude. “I’m not shy - that’s for sure,” she laughed. “I’m very outgoing and I love being with people but I enjoy my own company too. Solitude gives me time to process life and where I want to be. In a world that’s moving so fast, we need time in solitude.” Ruby is an avid reader and consumer of podcasts. “I love positive quotes and I believe we should never give up. Life isn’t always going to be good; it’s going to throw us different curve balls and it’s important to just keep going. I keep God first in everything.” Ruby loves to have a good laugh and frequents comedy shows. She enjoys traveling, concerts, shopping, spending time with family and her close friends, and practicing Pilates.
Ruby is a lover of life. “The loss of my mom taught me the importance of enjoying life and those around you. You can learn a lot about people by talking to them as we all have a story. I have learned never to judge a book by its cover because we have more in common than what you may think. I believe that the company you keep is a reflection of who you are, so I surround myself with genuine people who are good for the soul.”
