Kellie Peek
Originally from Las Vegas, Kellie Peek was a “super nerd” who graduated high school and college on the same day. Kellie has prior experience in nursing - she was a Licensed Practical Nurse on track to become a Registered Nurse - and worked many years in the Retail industry for Gap and the Liz Claiborne Company. She climbed her way up the corporate ladder in retail until she realized it wasn’t a fit for her. She then pursued a certificate in women in leadership through Cornell with a desire to support women’s leadership and empowerment initiatives. “I wanted to do more with my life and wanted to remind other women that they can do more, too.”
Kellie’s family moved to Colorado in 2016 for her husband’s job. It was through their home buying process that she connected with Chris Cowles. “Chris really listened to our needs and desires and was very helpful during our relocation process. We looked at 60 houses in two days and Chris only showed us houses that met our desires. The offer we put in fell through but Chris helped us revive it.” Chris ultimately invited Kellie to consider real estate. It wasn’t until four years later that she decided to go to real estate school. After getting her license, she interviewed with a few brokerages, including The Cutting Edge, Realtors, where Chris worked. It was there that Kellie felt a sense of “home.” She reflected, “They seemed genuinely excited about me being a new agent and were eager to share their resources with me. I felt empowered and knew that I would be supported.”
Chris connected Kellie with Crystal Sisler and within 20 minutes of their first meeting, Kellie was ready to sign on the dotted line. Kellie knew instinctively that she would benefit from working with Crystal. “We shared similar backgrounds and I felt confident that Crystal knew what kind of training I most needed.” Kellie started with Zillow and pay-per-click leads, but Crystal taught her how to work her sphere. “By the end of the first week, I had my first client that was relocating to Colorado and it wasn’t long before I had 10 clients.” Within her first month, she had a variety of buyers under contract including conventional and VA as well as a cash buyer. “In the chaos of post-COVID, no inventory, and bidding wars - I was thrown to the wolves! What you learn at real estate school isn’t what you really do every day. But I had such a great support system from everyone at The Cutting Edge, which helped with my confidence and my transition.”
Kellie appreciated learning operational processes from her mentor Crystal. They both had a belief in the importance of setting yourself up for success behind the scenes. They would role play so Kellie could practice how to respond to client inquiries and needs. She valued this time as it helped her prepare to handle the challenges that could arise in the moment with clients. She also learned how to follow up with clients, how and when to send gifts, and how to engage with clients on special days such as birthdays. Kellie proclaimed, “It was a huge win to have someone like Crystal in my corner.”
Kellie worked with Crystal for two years before deciding in February of 2023 that she was ready to start advertising her own brand, Colorado Peek Properties. She now maintains her business through referrals. When asked what it meant to her to be featured in Real Producers so quickly after launching her own business, Kellie shared, “I’m honored to be a part of this community of agents who are looking out for the people who are relocating in and out of our community, and those who are upgrading their lifestyle or downsizing. We’re all in this together, and I appreciate it when we can communicate transparently. This isn’t just a transaction for the client; it’s someone’s life and lifestyle that affects their life savings - so it’s important to care for the people that you’re working with. I’m not trying to be the #1 REALTOR® or the best of the best. I’m just trying to be the best at what I do for my clients.”
While Kellie enjoys working with first time home buyers and empty nesters, she has a special place in her heart for the first time buyer. “I remember when I was buying my first home and how undereducated I felt. So now, it’s my job to ensure my buyers have all their questions answered and feel prepared for both the best and worst case scenarios so they can navigate whatever pops up.”
As she reflected on her early days in real estate, Kellie shared some of her earliest lessons. “I learned the importance of slowing down and paying attention to each step of the process. There’s a lot of information and a lot to take care of. I’ve always loved people and was a people pleaser but have realized that not everyone needs to agree with me all the time. My communication style isn’t right for everyone and not every client is the right fit. I was my own worst critic but learned not to be so hard on myself if something didn't work out.”
Additionally, Kellie realized how important it was to set expectations with clients up front about her availability and response times. “I’m not *just* a real estate agent. My family is important to me and I do a lot of other things besides real estate. It’s important for me to be there for my kids and my family.” Kellie and her husband have two kids, Lacey age 11 and Lucas age 9. Kellie “moms hard” and is actively involved in her kids’ schools. She’s the PTO President at Antelope Trails, her son’s school. She also helps at the school library, helps clean the lunchroom on some days, and supports Popcorn Fridays for Spirit Day.
Her daughter Lacey is an active Girl Scout (and Kellie is her troop’s leader) and Kellie and Lacey love reading together. Kellie and Lacey also enjoy mother-daughter time getting their hair and nails done, and indulging in facials. Her son Lucas enjoys building robots and loves problem solving and building games such as Fortnight and MineCraft. Together, the family enjoys skiing, Tae Kwon Do, bowling, and going to the zoo. They have many pets including cats, dogs, chickens, a snake and a mouse.
In her free time, Kellie loves to crochet and can make an entire afghan in an afternoon. She enjoys cooking and baking, baths, traveling, long strolls on the beach, and swimming. Kellie gives back in a variety of ways. She serves with Crossroads Ministries and hosts tea parties at long term care facilities, during which guests sing songs and play trivia games.
