Zack Tominack, Coldwell Banker Realty

The Perfect Mix

As a former bartender and manager of the Newport Music Hall, Zack Tominack learned to mix a mean cocktail. Now, he has mastered the correct blend of ingredients to make a smoking hot real estate career.

Ingredient One – Flexibility

“One of the reasons I think I have become a successful real estate agent is because of the Newport, every night was different,” explains Zack. “The crowd was different, the band was different, and when you throw alcohol in there, everything gets a bit crazy. Just like real estate, nothing is ever the same. Every transaction is different, you must learn how to think on your feet and how to go with the flow. I loved working at the Newport, and I learned so much there.”

Crossing from the music scene (Snoop Dogg was his favorite) over to real estate in 2013 was a natural progression for Zack. After starting a family, the late-night music scene was not so conducive to family life, so he took a chance and went all in.

Ingredient Two – Family Support

“Professionally, bartending and managing have helped to mold my career,” says Zack. “But personally, my wife and my kids have been the number one thing that has helped me to succeed. My wife was super supportive from the beginning. We both wanted me to get out of working nights. I was ready to nervously make a change.”

Even though the jump was a tad scary, Zack prepared by banking up some cash, contacting his sphere, and passing the real estate exam. But the one piece of advice he wished he had in the beginning was to have been a little more self-assured.

Ingredient Three – Confidence

“You have to be confident in yourself when you are first starting out,” suggests Zack. “I learned when you are first starting out, there are people that think they know more than you, and they try to dictate everything. It diminishes your role and value.”

Zack humbly admits he was slow out of the gate and was not as consistent as he should have been when he started real estate. Like many agents, he had to try different things and approaches, but ultimately, he stayed true to himself and the relationships he made along the way.

He heeded some sound advice from his father, a former football coach and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and still lives by it today.

“My dad was a football coach, track coach, and teacher,” reminisces Zack. “He gave me the best advice when I was beginning. He told me to just be yourself and be honest. If you are honest, it might take you longer to build your business, but you will be successful longer. He said if I try to work on a deal as a salesman, I might land that one deal, but that would not lead to anything else.”

With his perfect mix, and a sidecar of advice from his father, Zack has weathered his real estate career, maybe a little shaken here and there, but never stirred – the perfect blend to order up a Zack on Fire.
