“Life is meant to be fun,” says Cody Carre. “Take your time, do what you want to do, and try to be 1% better than you were yesterday.”
A big part of Cody’s high school experience was marching band; a passion he continued for 10 years after graduation through teaching colorguard. His love for the marching arts also brought him to meet his husband, Andy, as the two of them taught the Westerville North and South marching bands.
In 2011, the pair moved to Columbus and eventually bought a house with the help of Andy’s mom as their real estate agent. It was then Cody fell in love with the whole process and decided he wanted to help others become homeowners.
When they bought in 2016 during the start of a buying frenzy, the market was much different than when he became a licensed REALTOR® in 2018. Then not too long after starting his career, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Needless to say, Cody has seen his fair share of change in the industry and his ability to evaluate and adjust to those changes is one thing that sets him apart from other agents.
The main pillar of Cody’s business is educating people on how to use real estate to create generational wealth. “Real estate is always going to be one of the fastest vehicles to wealth in America,” he says. “Looking into the future, real estate will help change my financial setting so I can help change other people’s financial settings.” Cody has a passion for helping create a community-based solution for the attainable housing crisis.
The most rewarding aspect of his work falls into meeting people where they are and coming into their situation with a service-based mindset ready to help. Cody says: “It is really fulfilling when the people that need you the most, find you.”
Some of his biggest mentors have been his team leads who are a strong, queer couple taking on the Columbus area with nothing but pride. They inspire Cody to be his true, authentic self in the workplace. He says “I won’t change who I am and if there are people who choose not to work with me because of who I love, that’s their problem.”
Cody has learned a lot throughout his time as a REALTOR®; however, if he could give advice to others in the field, he encourages everyone to get permission to talk about your offers. He also wants to remind everyone to take a step back and decide “is a win truly a win, if it is at the expense of others?”
Alongside Cody every step of his career has been his husband. While Cody no longer teaches colorguard, the two of them still love to do marching arts together. Through volunteering and donating, Cody prioritizes supporting the Westerville marching band. The couple is also involved in central Ohio’s premiere LGBTQ+ pageantry performance ensemble called “Flaggots Ohio'' which uses the art of colorguard to spread love at Pride events throughout the Midwest, including the Columbus Pride parade!
In their free time, Cody and Andy love exploring Uptown Westerville and all it has to offer. Some of their favorite events are the farmers market and the 4th Friday Festival which Cody’s team has been attending this year. At the end of the day, they can’t wait to go home to over 100 houseplants to spend time with their dogs, Foxy Cleopatra and Chica Paprika, and their cats, Skid Magic and Punkin Spice.
