Taking Real Estate by Storm

Katie Knowlton’s journey into real estate was set in motion long before she became an agent. In fact, you could say she’s been handling life’s storms from the very beginning—born during Hurricane Kate in Ft. Lauderdale, Katie knows how to weather any challenge that comes her way.

But life threw Katie her first real storm when she was just 10 years old—losing her father to lung cancer. It was a defining moment, and it taught Katie that even in the hardest of times, you keep pushing forward. Her mother moved the family to Aspen, where she took on a new career in real estate to support them. “Watching my mom flourish in her new career was so empowering,” Katie recalls. “The loss of my father was devastating. But it taught me to appreciate life and love those around me. And if I can survive losing a parent, there’s nothing I can’t handle.”

It’s no surprise that Katie found her way into real estate after seeing her mother succeed in the industry. Real estate seemed to run in her family—her father had been a developer, her brother is a builder, and her mother’s determination set an example of how to turn adversity into opportunity.

Before making the leap into real estate, however, Katie spent 10 years managing a private medical practice in Cherry Creek. It was roles like this, in addition to bartending and managing restaurants, where she learned how to juggle a million tasks at once—skills that would later come in handy in real estate.

Katie’s entry into the real estate world came during another storm—this time, the pandemic. With the medical practice shutting down, she took it as a sign to finally follow her passion. “I had been wanting to make the jump into real estate for years, but the timing just never seemed to align,” Katie explains. She dove into the challenge, passed her licensing exam on the first try, and quickly embraced the unpredictable, fast-paced Denver market.

Since then, Katie has carved out a reputation for herself, especially with first-time homebuyers. Having purchased her first home at 27 as a single mom, Katie knows firsthand how stressful and overwhelming the process can be. “I remember how much I wanted to create stability for my daughter Marbella and myself,” she says. "Buying my first house was a huge accomplishment, and now helping others experience that same pride is something I’m incredibly passionate about."

Katie’s ability to connect with her clients is what sets her apart. Her background in managing a medical practice taught her how to care for people, and she brings that same level of attention and empathy to real estate. She sees herself as more than just an agent; she’s a guide, helping her clients through one of the most significant and often stressful experiences of their lives. “Whether it’s a first-time buyer or a family looking to sell, I’m there to help ease the stress and make the experience memorable—for all the right reasons,” she says.

Real estate may have its ups and downs, but Katie thrives on the excitement of it all. “Every transaction is different,” she explains. “There are so many factors you can’t control—interest rates, the market, personalities, emotions—but that’s what keeps it interesting. The challenge is making all those moving parts fit together, and when it works out, it’s the best feeling.”

For Katie, success isn’t just about closing deals—it’s about balance. Between her busy career and her life at home with her daughter, her soon-to-be husband Andrew, and their young son Crew, Katie knows how important it is to make time for the things that matter most. “Dinner time is especially sacred at our house,” she shares, smiling. “We’re a team—Marbella helps me in the kitchen, and Andrew keeps Crew entertained. It’s our time to reconnect as a family.”

Outside of real estate, Katie enjoys the vibrant culture Denver has to offer—live music, trying new restaurants, and DIY home projects. “Summer in the mountains is my favorite,” Katie says, “but I’m just as happy snowboarding in the winter. Colorado is perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors, and I feel lucky to call it home.”

As she continues to grow her business and her community, Katie’s focus remains on the relationships she builds along the way. “I want to be remembered for the impact I’ve made on my clients’ lives,” she says, “as someone who was there for them every step of the way, not just as a REALTOR®, but as a trusted resource and a friend.”
