Delroy Gill: Blazing the trade

Refined Residence of LIV Sotheby’s International Realty

From the young age of 12, living in London, Delroy Gill knew he wanted to work in real estate. He saw individuals in the industry with the lifestyle he wanted, including a flexible schedule and passion and understanding of design and quality. “At 12 years old, I wanted to own a home, and I didn’t want to go to a job where someone told me what to do. So, I thought the best way to achieve those goals was to get into the business of houses and build my own brand,” Delroy says.

Delroy’s path to real estate wasn’t traditional. He has no high school diploma and no college degree. Despite his drive, ambition and desire to be part of the real estate industry, he was on a rocky path, but didn’t realize it until he met his wife. “She started pointing out all of the rocky roads I was on, and from that point on, I started redefining who I was, which led me to real estate marketing.” Despite a lack of education, Delroy did have a great first mentor and worked in real estate marketing for some of the top real estate firms nationwide, including RE/MAX and Coldwell Banker.

“There, I got to see the behind-the-scenes of how to generate business. Once I learned that part of the business, the recession hit and I saw an opportunity to use my unique skill set for pay-per-click advertisements, building a brand and generating online leads to generate business in a market that was going down,” Delroy explains. “This was when Barack Obama was going to become president. Everything about his campaign was around hope and the whole real estate market had no hope, so I created a real estate brand called ‘Your Hope Team.’ I marketed it for people that were upside down on their mortgage and needed loan modifications and short sales, and I generated thousands of leads in Denver.”

Although he was marketing hope, one of Delroy’s biggest career challenges was pushing through a recession, specifically going through the initial start of being a realtor in a time when real estate felt doomed. “My wife, kids and empty refrigerator motivated me to keep going, find hope and innovate,” he states. Delroy’s inflection point occurred in 2015 when he went to a real estate seminar in San Diego. It opened his eyes to move from lead generation to building authentic relationships. Once he did that, there was a shift that allowed him to see a new way to build his business. It opened an abundance of possibilities.

After 12 years as an agent, Delroy has a career volume of more than $400 million in sales volume. In 2023, he was named the Top Individual Broker by NAREB 100, Number 1 Black realtor in the U.S. per NAREB, and he received the Denver Metro Realtor Association’s Black Diamond award and Number 1 partnership in Denver for transactions. He also won the RealTrends Trendsetter Award in 2020 and RealTrends America’s Best Professional in 2022.

In 2024, Delroy has taken his business to the next level by focusing on the ultra-luxury sector of the real estate market. His new brand, Refined Residence, focuses on homes valued at $5 million and greater in the Denver Metro area, targeting the Cherry Hills Village community. His team is delivering on an experience that is unmatched in the marketplace currently.

Delroy’s love for real estate is easy to see. “I love houses. In all honesty, I feel like if you’re passionate about real estate, it’s just a part of your life. It really isn’t a 9-to-5 five job. You love it or you don’t love it; you’re in or you’re out. There’s not really a middle ground for real estate where you turn your real estate brain off and clock out. Real estate is just always on my mind,” he shares.

Delroy has been married for 20 years to his wife Jayde and they have three kids, Jaylem, Kailah and Jahsiah. They enjoy trying interesting restaurants, spending time in nature and traveling. Delroy supports The Porter Billups Foundation and Women’s Foundation of Colorado, and outside of real estate, he’s passionate about fashion, cars and adventure.

Delroy’s favorite aspects of real estate is the constant growth, change, learning and advising. “There’s always something new in real estate,” Delroy said. “It never stays the same. I also love helping and advising people through the real estate process. Taking people through the journey from a one-bedroom condo to a $2 million house brings me joy.” Delroy hopes his own path to success shows people they can come from any background or any market and dominate. He wants to be remembered for “blazing the trail and leaving all the clues behind.”
