Mindy Garcia
Leading with a Servant's Heart
Mindy Garcia is a combination of entrepreneurial spirit, hard work, determination, a genuine care for people, and according to the men in her family – some spiciness too. The rest of us see the calm composed Mindy that loves to solve problems, put the puzzle pieces together, help others and earn their trust, as well as build strong relationships. Mindy never takes for granted that her loyal customers give her part of their dream and let her ride along to help secure the right place for memories, and as the Director of Strategic Growth for Century 21 Scheetz, she is always ready to advance the cause and health of her company.
Mindy graduated from Florida State with a degree in Business and English and a minor in Spanish. She loved to read, write, and study literature, but she did not want to teach. She knew that her destiny included some type of business venture(s), but like her father, she chose to launch her career in Human Resources. She worked there for a time, but the travel became difficult and exhausting. When she purchased her first home, she really enjoyed the experience, decided to become an agent, and went to work at her agent’s company. That was over two decades ago, and she says the rest is history.
Garcia had to overcome her age and inexperience at first in her career start, but she was able to earn the trust of many. For her, success is not about money, possessions, numbers, or a large bank account but about loving what you do and surrounding yourself with amazing people. “I am so thankful for many of the people that I have come to know, and I have learned to become whole, happy and fulfilled in my work,” notes Mindy.
When she decided to go into business with her fiancé – twenty years ago, it was a game-changer in her life. Her boyfriend, Joe Garcia, was working as an Engineer at Lilly, but he was considering a new career. She told them that they should just try a spec home together, and they did. That fledgling effort led to his eventual work as a Custom Home Builder. Today, he focuses on the building side, and Mindy focuses on the real estate side, but sometimes will assist him with spec homes, through their company, G&G Custom Homes.
Mindy knows that the best agents have a servant’s heart, are willing to put the best interests of others ahead of their own, and are likeable and wise. She says better agents are willing to expend the time to meet the goals of others, and they have the ability to think outside the box. The best agents also employ forward thinking techniques and always operate with an abundant mindset. Mindy enjoys the strategy side of the business, and she always labors for the best possible outcomes.
For newer agents, Mindy has some sage advice: start with your sphere, keep up on developing your skills, know your micro-market, and find a hobby and meet people. She tells newbies that there is so much information, so they can really educate themselves. Good agents really have no fear of rejection, so she encourages them to “put themselves out there.”
Mindy and Joe have been married twenty years and have two boys: Christian (17), who enjoys cars and working for his dad and Gabe (15) who also loves baseball. It is fun for the parents to watch them grow and spend time together. Mindy is training her Golden Retriever, Mac, to become a therapy dog. He is not yet certified but has already visited some nursing homes. She also loves to be adventurous, do things outside, exercise, and travel.
Mindy gives huge kudos to three very special people who have impacted her life. She mentions her high school cross country coach who taught the athletes to develop discipline and grit in their lives, to pursue excellence, and to never cut corners. She also mentions her mother and dad who gave her incredible support and a spirit of adventure that she really appreciates.
Mindy Garcia trusts that her legacy will be defined by her treating her clients well and by her genuine care – things that she already has a head start upon!
