Meet Mathew Fields
Farmer's Insurance and Financial Services
Born and raised in Memphis, Mathew Fields is excited to be blazing a trail in the insurance and financial services industry. But the journey to launch his own Farmer’s Insurance brokerage began with a passion for customer service.
Years earlier, it was Fields' grandfather, Harlan, who purchased the Patton Mansion on Poplar in 1965 and erected four white pillars out front, topped with flames, and launched the Four Flames restaurant. The upscale restaurant attracted the likes of many Memphis elites as well as celebrities visiting from out of town.
Fields' father was in the food broker business, and Mathew worked at several restaurants growing up, giving him a foundation of excellent customer service.
When the time came to choose an area of study at the University of Memphis, Mathew chose Hospitality Management. Following graduation, he began working in the golf industry as a Custom Club Fitter. He loved the job, but one day a customer approached him about making a career change.
“It was in the financial services industry and he said to me, ‘You know how to talk to people and have the right personality … we will train you everything you need to know and help get you licensed.’ So I started with Mass Mutual as a financial advisor where I acquired my Life and Health Insurance licenses, as well as my Series 6 and Series 63 licenses. I have also obtained my Property and Casualty licenses where I gained experience with Home and Auto Insurance, as well as earning my CLCS (Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist) designation.”
In February of 2018, Fields found himself in negotiations to launch his own Farmer’s Insurance brokerage. An opportunity to craft his own destiny and build his own business, while focusing on helping others. So with a vision for the future, Fields opened up shop at 2024 Exeter Rd Ste 2 in Germantown.
“It’s been a great three years! I’ve definitely learned some things the hard way, but I’m excited for the growth and for the future.”
When asked about what he loves the most about working in insurance, Fields responds immediately with a smile, “I love people. I love meeting people. I don’t like the monotony of a desk job. I love doing business face-to-face. On the financial services side of things, it’s far less transactional and more about getting to know a person’s story and what their goals are for their family. I also love the commercial side … learning about a business and what drives them. I genuinely love people and enjoy finding ways to bring them value through what I do.”
Mathew and his wife, Brooke, have three kids, ages eleven, nine, and seven. Among their favorite pastimes are vacation trips to St. Augustine, family reunions at the lake, and camping and fishing.
“I’m also addicted to grilling and barbequing. We recently got a blackstone griddle and enjoy making huge breakfasts together … good family time.”
When asked what he wants REALTORS® to know about him, Fields says if you were to wrap it all into one word, it would be VERSATILITY.
“Obviously, REALTORS® want what’s best for their clients. And so do we! We spend a good amount of time getting to know each client, to ensure we are building good relationships and understanding their whole situation. Then we can genuinely HELP them understand their needs, and EDUCATE them on their options. It’s not our goal to just sell a policy, but to help them achieve the confidence to protect their family and their assets. And when necessary, we have the ability to knock it out quickly and do the education piece on the back end.”
We are so grateful for Farmer’s Insurance and their partnership with Memphis Real Producers! Thank you, Mathew, for your partnership!
