Briefly describe exactly what your company does/the services it provides.
Real Estate Law and conducting real estate closings
How and why did you decide on this particular industry? What’s your story?
I started at Mid-State Title as an extra person to help when busy to answer phones, set up files, and then started full time in 1992 as a courier and admin person. I was very fortunate to have Cynthia Beard as the closing manager who encouraged me to be curious and learn all aspects of the closing process and when she left to become a real estate agent I was promoted to closing manager and subsequently bought into the company during law school.
Do you have a particular motto, creed or basic principle that drives your business
“Every day is a chance for you to change someone else’s life.”
What do you most want the top producing Realtors to know about your business?
The entire team at Mid-State Title is ready to serve you and your clients every day and we will continue to be – we value the people.
What do you find most fulfilling about your work?
Experiencing service and fulfillment of dreams – the first-time homebuyer – the investor – the commercial transaction that is going to employ people – selling the family farm – serving the 2nd generation of long time clients.
What significant changes have you seen take place in your profession through the years? Regulation in Real Estate transaction has changed significantly over my years – for example, the main document has changed from a HUD Settlement Statement to a GFE HUD Settlement Statement to an ALTA/Closing Disclosure Statement. However – it is still the practice of law and the fundamentals are the same.
Tell us about your family and what you all enjoy doing together.
I married the wedding singer – yep – I was engaged young and my ex-finance wanted Andrew to sing at our wedding – which was called off obviously. I've now been married to Andrew for 26 years. We have a newly married son, a daughter just starting law school, and a 16-year-old son. We love to travel as a family to Scotland, Italy, England, Bahamas. We play Family Jeopardy, we are nerds.
When you aren’t working, what’s your favorite way to spend time?
Travel and now just outdoors anytime – road trips in Tesla because 0-60 is fun in that car.
How would you define success?
Personal satisfaction of the ability to bless anyone at any time – meet them where they are at – success is when you can do that.
What do you want to be remembered for?
Authentically treating people well - always
What other specific information about you/your business would you like to share with Realtors?
The practice of real estate law is a foundation to help people obtain and grow wealth – we are so blessed to live in the amazing area of Middle TN.
