Working six or seven days a week is always a challenge – no matter who you are or what you do, the human body needs rest.
Nancy Potts is setting out to prove that a myth.
Before becoming a rising star in Connecticut real estate, she was a New Yorker working in food service – mostly restaurant management and bartending. Away from the always-busy nature of that work, she dedicated herself to raising three kids. She moved to Connecticut, put her kids in the Clinton school system, and connected with her neighborhood and community. Her kids, Potts says, are her greatest motivator. She aims to show them that it is possible to have it all in life – from quality time with family to career advancement to community service. Raising a family has driven her towards avoiding failure and attaining success – and that makes her an agent to watch in these communities and this state.
At the outset of her real estate experience, Potts had her journey into the industry impacted by the pandemic – in a different way than many other, more established realtors. She had already made the decision to step into real estate from the restaurant business just before the world shut down, but her work stalled when the pandemic forced her education to shift to crowded Zoom meetings. It was a frustrating time trying to build a resume in 2020, but Potts focused… and found her path to success in short order.
“I am in the people business first and foremost”. Each real estate transaction is unique and tailored to achieve her clients real estate goals.
“Business gets me business,” she says – pointing to a remarkable pattern of client referrals that keep her busy with an ever-expanding base. She focuses on finding affordable properties for her clients, primarily in Clinton, Madison, and Old Saybrook – aiming to put people into their dream living situations, as she has found her own.
Potts never forgets her past – she has used her history in food service to make connections. One of her clients is even a former boss; she has transformed her relationship with him from managing his restaurants to managing his real estate portfolio on an international level. She wants to build her own portfolio for the rest of her career – creating a solid nest egg for her three kids once she has retired.
Food still finds its way into her life – you’ll likely find her running a bake sale on the sideline of a high school football game, two or three loaves of pumpkin bread in hand. If she keeps up her motivation to be the best – and all signs point to ‘yes’ – she’ll be getting plenty of “bread” and “dough” in other ways as well.
