10 Major Attributes of Leadership

...from Think & Grow Rich

Let's discuss leadership.

In my book, "Knock It Out of the Park Leadership," I emphasize the simple concept that if you're running an organization, you need to be a leader. And when you think about it, we are all leaders in some capacity. If you're a parent to a child or working in an organization, you are a leader.
You may not realize it, but at some point, you will be mentoring somebody, and we all need to learn how to lead. One of the chapters in "Think and Grow Rich" provides the major attributes of leadership and the characteristics we need to possess to become great leaders. I will share them with you so you can assess yourself and identify areas where you need to improve.

The first attribute is unwavering courage, which is not limited to battlefield bravery. It's the courage to make a decision to move yourself and your company forward, step outside your comfort zone, and introduce a new product or service that hasn't been proven. This way, you can stand out as a leader.

The second attribute is self-control. Leaders must have self-control and cannot berate someone on their team in front of others and still expect respect as a leader.
The third attribute is having a keen sense of justice. Leaders must always do what is right and ensure that others follow suit.

The fourth attribute is the definiteness of decision, which is crucial for those who are indecisive. As a leader, people are following you, and they expect you to make a decision. You can consult with your coach, mentors, or peers, but when it's time to decide, be firm and definite.

The fifth attribute is the habit of doing more than is paid for. Leaders must sometimes go above and beyond to do more for others.

The sixth attribute is having a pleasing personality. Gone are the days of dictatorship. People are waiting for you to lead, so have a pleasing personality and lead by example.

The seventh attribute is sympathy and understanding. Leaders need to be empathetic and put themselves in other people's shoes to make a proper decision that benefits everyone.

The eighth attribute is mastery of details. Leaders may not be great at doing details, but they can hire someone who is and communicate the details masterfully so that others can follow.

The ninth attribute is the willingness to assume full responsibility. Leaders must take ownership of everything that happens in their organization, both good and bad.

Lastly, the tenth attribute is cooperation. Leaders need to cooperate with their families, loved ones, and team members to move forward.

These are the major attributes of great leaders as outlined in "Think & Grow Rich." Review these attributes and rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10. If you need help improving any of these areas, feel free to reach out to me, and I will guide you through the process. I wrote "Knock It Out of the Park Leadership" to serve as an example. If I can do it, then so can you!
