Legacy of Excellence: Rob Thomson's Vision at Waterfront Properties and Club Communities
In the vibrant real estate landscape of Jupiter, FL, Rob Thomson stands as an award-winning luxury realtor and owner of Waterfront Properties and Club Communities…and much more. With exceptional business acumen and an unparalleled sense of philanthropy, Rob is dedicated to upholding his family’s legacy. Founded in 1988 by his mother, Joan Thomson, Waterfront Properties bears the promise of excellence that has spanned nearly three generations, making it the premier brokerage of luxury real estate in the region for over three decades. With branches in Palm Beach, North Palm Beach, and Stuart, its main corporate and marketing center is situated in Rob’s hometown of Jupiter.
Excellence as a Standard
Reflecting on his mother’s wisdom, Rob notes, “My mother taught us that there is an excellent way and there is a wrong way. Excellence is her standard – there’s no middle ground.” This commitment to excellence has become a guiding principle for Rob and the entire Waterfront Properties team.
Honoring Founder, Joan Thomson
When Joan received the 2021 Broker of the Year Award from the Jupiter-Tequesta-Hobe Sound Council of the Miami Association of Realtors, she graciously shared, "This is really a reflection of the incredible team at Waterfront Properties. From realtors who provide white glove service to a marketing department that leaves no digital stone unturned to customers who refer us and return to list and purchase, again and again, it's an honor shared by everyone."
Joan, now, at age 92, is celebrated for having built the foundation for a powerhouse business. Rob continues the legacy, embodying the "Waterfront Way" and implementing his mother’s practices in agent training. He elaborates, "We have full-time trainers at Waterfront, and I conduct weekly coaching meetings with agents. Our marketing department is simply unmatched– we want our agents to focus solely on their relationships with clients.”
Mastering the South Florida Market
Rob and his immediate team, including his son Jack, achieved a significant milestone in 2023 with an impressive 330 million dollars in closed and pending sales. Rob attributes this success, in part, to the nature of South Florida's unique real estate market. He explains, “People from all over the country and the world are moving here. Their reasons for relocation are as diverse as Florida’s population is. We’re not just seeing beach lovers move here any longer. Entire corporations, which can benefit from Florida’s tax structure, are finding a home base here now. We’re improving our infrastructure rapidly to meet the need - from the Bright Line to its airports, Florida will always continue to grow.”
Next-Generation Leadership
Like his dad, Jack Thomson, was also raised in Jupiter. As a new graduate of Florida State University’s business school in Tallahassee, Jack recently returned home with a marketing degree. Rob comments enthusiastically, “He's really into the business. And he's done extraordinarily well in the short time that he's been back from college. It’s very valuable. And hopefully, he’ll carry on the company’s legacy in the future, as I did from my mother.”
The Winning Combination: Technology and Training
When asked what sets his company apart, Rob distinguishes Waterfront Properties and Club Communities by its adaptability. He states, “We live in an ever-changing world. Yet, many companies maintain one strategy for many years, regardless of the changes happening around them. But, we’re different. Waterfront prides itself on growth and change with an avid use of technology.”
The company's unique approach also involves fostering close relationships. Rob emphasizes, "We are extremely close with our agents. We work with them, we supply them with business, we hand them leads – they're not just left on their own."
Waterfront's dynamic coaching atmosphere, coupled with state-of-the-art technology, establishes it as a leader in the industry and showcases Rob's effectiveness as a forward-thinking businessman.
Philanthropy: A Vital Element of Waterfront Properties’ Identity
Within Waterfront Properties’ business realm, philanthropy has become an integral part of Rob’s life. Inspired by his mother’s values, Rob’s numerous initiatives range from gutting and renovating two gyms for the police force in Tequesta and Juno Beach during the pandemic to donating two large school buses for special needs kids to supporting pet adoption by pandemic first responders at Big Dog Ranch Rescue with a check for 15,000 dollars! The company’s long-standing tradition of purchasing two hundred bicycles for underprivileged children at Christmas, now in its twenty-second year, reflects Rob's commitment to impactful community engagement. Rob smiles as he notes, “We try to do things that don't fit in anyone else's wheelhouse.”
In August of 2023, Florida Realtors® presented their Humanitarian of the Year Award to Rob at the 2023 Florida Realtors Convention & Trade Expo in Orlando. One month later, the global real estate network, Luxury Real Estate, honored Rob with its Extraordinary Philanthropy Award for the second time. The Waterfront Properties and Club Communities owner and managing partner first won the award in 2018.
Wisdom Passed Down: "It’s not ours to keep; it’s just ours to manage"
Joan Thomson's wisdom echoes through the company's many philanthropic endeavors. Her mantra, "It’s not ours to keep; it’s just ours to manage," has brought joy and hope to countless lives, defining Waterfront Properties and Club Communities' compassionate ethos.
