Generational Success
“I learned my work ethic from my parents. They’re the hardest working people I know,” Karly
Chavez said. “My dad was a busboy and then a server at a restaurant. He worked so hard and
saved and saved. Over time, he was able to buy investment properties in Mexico and in San
Diego. His sacrifice and work built generational wealth for our family and taught me how to do
the same.”
Karly Chavez, a REALTOR® at Big Block Realty, Inc., has made a name for herself through that
same determination and hard work she learned from her family. “My parents worked every
single day so that I could have this opportunity. I won't waste it. I work just as hard to provide an
even better future for my family,” she said.
Karly was born and raised in San Diego. She started working in the restaurant alongside her
parents at 15 years old; she’s worked every day since then. Karly put herself through school at
San Diego State University where she earned a degree in Communications.
After college, Karly became a legal assistant. The power of real estate was reinforced for her in this position.
“After working at the law office, I knew I didn’t want a traditional 9 to 5 job. I wanted to work on
something of my own, I wanted to be able to do what my mom and dad had done,” she said.
In 2016, Karly began studying for her real estate exam, and in 2016, she became a licensed agent.
“At first, I worked in real estate part-time and had a job in college admissions on the side. I was
so afraid to jump in with both feet,” she detailed. “By 2020, I knew that if I was going to be a
successful agent, I had to go for it 100%. I knew I had to give it my all and sacrifice my time
and efforts in order to succeed.”
Karly quit her job to focus on her real estate business. “It was a big jump for me, but I did it. I
worked incredibly hard – 24/7 – for months and months. I hired a coach, and surrounded myself with great teams, ” she said with a warm laugh.
The leap has more than paid off. “It wasn’t easy, but I can look back and say I made the right
decision. I love what I do and my business has flourished. I put the systems in place, I did the
work. I built my network and now I have a business to show for it. I’m so proud of what I’ve
done,” she said.
Karly now manages upwards of 30-40 transactions a year. She serves all kinds of buyers and
sellers across the county. “There is no listing too big or too small for me,” she said. “I roll out the
red carpet and give all my clients the same top-notch experience no matter what.”
Her focus on customer service works. Karly’s clients love her and much of her business comes
from referrals now. Karly is supported by her assistant, Jessica Partida, and transaction
coordinator, Elizabeth Brumbaugh. Karly also notes that her first assistant, Natalie Triplet,
helped her get started. “They make this all possible. I couldn’t do it without them,” she said.
“I love so many things about my job, but my favorite is seeing people reach a dream they didn’t
think was possible,” she said. “I am Latina, I love helping my Latino community. Many of them
don’t think they can buy their first house in the US or move up to their dream home, but I love
problem-solving and helping them figure out a way to make it happen. Nothing makes me
happier than seeing their dreams of owning a home come true.”
Karly’s whys are her family, friends, and community. “It's about the people you surround yourself
with and the relationships we build. My mom and dad showed me what’s possible. They
worked so hard so that we could have a better life. I am doing the same for those around me,”
she said. Karly is building on the foundation her parents started for their family. With their
example and Karly’s work ethic, her success is inevitable.
No one can argue that Karly has already made it in this business, but she’s only just getting
started. “This is just the beginning for me,” she said. “I’m taking what I’ve learned and I’m
helping others do the same. I want to show other agents that their dreams are possible too. The
next step is building a team of great agents that have the same goals as I do.”
The majority of Karly’s time is dedicated to working, but when she has free time, she and her
husband, Adan, love to travel and spend time with family and friends. They’re self-described
foodies and enjoy trying new food and restaurants. Karly is still very close with her parents,
Nina, her uncle, siblings, and cousins; she sees them as often as she can.
“I want to be remembered for how I treat others. Life is too short to be anything other than kind.”
I feel so fortunate to be able to have a career I love and not feel like it's work” she added.
Karly has what this business takes – the ability to work hard, dream big, and most importantly,
be kind.
Following in the footsteps of her parents, Karly is well on her way to building
generational success for her team, clients, husband, family, and their future children.
