For the Love of Savannah

Growing up in central New York, Shanneé Theus fell in love with the houses and architecture surrounding her. Catching a glimpse of an old Victorian home inspired the romantic in her, even as a young girl. She remembers visiting some of these houses with her sister and friends, climbing up into the attic, and exploring the old newspapers and artifacts. The architecture enlivened her senses, tapping into a natural sense of awe.

Shanneé’s love of houses and architecture has stayed with her throughout the years. She arrived in Savannah in 2008, leaving behind the cold, gray winters of Syracuse, New York for the warmer temperatures and equally rich history of Savannah. While she traded in the complex Victorians with wraparound towers and cylindrical turrets for the classic brick colonials of the south, her passion for architecture remained strong. Savannah’s rich history, quaint squares, and cobblestone streets re-ignited her sense and inspired an appreciation for Savannah’s culture.

“I’m drawn to the Georgian, Greek revival stuff. I liked to imagine what it was like living here when these houses were built,” Shanneé reflects.

After graduating from Armstrong Atlantic State University with a degree in communications in 2015, Shanneé decided to make Savannah her home. She worked in the service industry through 2019, but the possibility of a career in real estate stayed in the back of her mind.

“I was bartending and serving but always wanted to get into real estate since I moved here,” Shanneé reflects. “I was fascinated with the architecture and history of Savannah, but I felt like I looked too young [to be a REALTOR®]. So I waited until I felt I looked aged enough.”

Taking the Plunge
Shanneé followed Team Callahan for several years from a distance. She was particularly drawn to the team’s culture of giving back and having fun. After years in the service industry, she finally took the plunge and launched her real estate career in 2019.

“I just got burnt out in the restaurant industry,” she says frankly. “I broke up with a longtime boyfriend and had this new sense of freedom to do what made me happy. I thought, ‘Why not now?’”

As a buyer’s specialist on Team Callahan, Shanneé has been tremendously successful in her first four years. She closed 37 homes for $11.5 million in 2022.

“Being on a team has its benefits. As a buyer's agent, I don't have to jump around mindsets. I'm hyper-focused in one area, which has definitely helped. I have a ton of support,” she says.

Shanneé prides herself on being patient, understanding, available, and knowledgeable. She’s also an investor and intends to continue building her real estate portfolio in the coming years.

After thinking about real estate for so many years, Shanneé feels grateful to be a top producer.

“Sometimes I don't even realize I've done so well. I keep my head down and go, go, go. Then I pick my head up and say, ‘I did really good. How about that?’ I’m proud of it, of course. I've worked really hard. It's nice to see the reward from it — not in a money way, but that others notice.”

For the Love of Savannah
Shanneé has now been living and thriving in Savannah for 15 years. During that time, it has indeed become home.

“I absolutely love it. I've seen so much growth here since I moved here. It's amazing to be a part of that,” she beams.

Her passion for the region’s rich history hasn’t faded, either.

“The architecture, the Spanish moss, the old cemeteries, the marsh, the water — it's such a beautiful place. The people are friendly. It’s a big, small city — not overwhelming, not too much traffic.”

Shanneé recently bought a colonial that she's been shaping into her dream home, and she dreams of one day purchasing a van to travel the country. She enjoys hanging out with friends at the park, on the boat, at the beach, or going out to eat (she’s a self-proclaimed “foodie”). Relationships are always in focus for Shanneé, whether she’s working or relaxing.

While Shanneé has achieved quick success in real estate, she doesn’t want to be defined by her career. She reminds us she’s a complex person. Her goals, dreams, and desires include real estate but also extend beyond it.

“I’m a human. I’m a person just like everyone else, with feelings and goals. There’s more to me than just what's on social media. I'm more than a REALTOR®, even though that's a big part of me.”
