Continuing a Family Tradition of Real Estate Success

Kim Morgan Storey

“One thing I love about this business is that there’s always something to learn every day.”

Kimberly Morgan Storey was born and raised in the Seattle area. Real estate runs in her family – her mother, Tamara VandenBerg, was an agent for most of her life and her grandfather was an agent before her. In high school, Kimberly would help her mom out with various marketing activities for her business. People always told her she should go into real estate, but in seeing the stress of the industry first-hand she was resistant to jumping in herself.
“It’s competitive being in this industry. On the outside, it looks like a fun industry to be a part of, but you don’t see the days working until 11 pm, submitting offers on weekends, or dropping things at all times to be with clients.”

When she was 25 years old she bought her first condo. Getting into the game of owning real estate was crucial to Kimberly, however, she wasn’t certain she wanted to be an agent herself. Several years later her Mom approached her about joining the world of real estate. Her mom thought she’d be a great fit for the business. At the time Kimberly was considering a new career and after much discussion, research and prayer she decided to get her license in 2014. She began working alongside her mom at Coldwell Banker Danforth. Her mom was an especially helpful resource in those first few years by answering questions, providing clarity on the process, and helping her build her own business.
Kimberly predominantly works in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties, for clients at all different price points. If someone she knows has a real estate need she wants to be there to help them through that process. She is focused on getting the best terms for her clients. She has a strong ‘YES’ mentality and doesn’t like to say no to anyone. Her approach involves a lot of networking with other agents and establishing good rapport with the people she’s working with. To her, the most successful transactions are the ones where the two agents on either side of the transaction are working together to serve the best interests of their clients.
“It’s easy to let your ego get in the way, but when you’re working together to solve a problem it becomes much smoother.”
Although her Mom (Tamara) has essentially retired, Kimberly’s business is still very much a family affair. Her husband, Matt Storey, works as a handyman at times and helps clients and Kimberly with various tasks. Kimberly’s brother-in-law, Hassan Izem, is in landscaping, so she refers clients to him whenever they need help with landscaping or yard work.

“Something I’ve loved doing for buyers is getting them a new lock once the transaction is closed. The closing present is often one of those nice keypad locks, and then Matt installs them for my clients.”
Ultimately, her “why” is getting to have that moment of celebration with her buyer and seller clients once a transaction is done. There’s simply nothing like being able to help people achieve their dreams. And since real estate can be a competitive, uphill battle at times, it’s incredibly gratifying every time a client is thrilled with the outcome.

“It gets me excited and happy to be such a big part of someone else’s life.”
Kimberly says she lives and breaths real estate but she does enjoy life outside of work. Kimberly adores spending time with her daughter, Lucy, who can sometimes be found in her real estate videos on social media. She enjoys boating on Lake Tapps, getting some sunshine, and relaxing with her husband. She played soccer in college at Washington State University and still enjoys playing in adult leagues today. Kimberly appreciates neighborhood walks, socializing with her extended family, and snowboarding in the winter months.
