A Vibrant Rise to Real Estate Success

With Emily Anderson

“I’m a chatty, energetic person and I love to move,” says Emily Anderson. Emily grew up in Portland, Oregon and went to the University of Washington to study communications with a minor in Spanish. After graduating she started a career in public relations, but quickly realized it wasn’t the right path for her. Sitting at a desk all day wasn’t appealing and, most of all, she dreamt of the freedom that would come with running her own business.

As was the case for many, the COVID pandemic threw a wrench in her plans and opened the door for new opportunities. Knowing her passion for people and attention to detail, a friend suggested she try getting into real estate. Emily agreed it was a good path to try and decided to get her license in November 2020. As she comments, “I just got my license and did it, and truly, could not be happier.”

Getting Started in Real Estate

Emily joined Every Door Real Estate in Seattle the day her license got approved. She’d originally interviewed to be a showing assistant, but after talking with the team they encouraged her to dive right in and do it. That’s what she did and she hit the ground running.

“Sometimes people make bad decisions with all the information in front of them, and that’s on them, but they have to have all that information.”

Coming from a background in communications and public relations, Emily is extremely detail-oriented, prompt with her communication, and motivated to connect with people. These traits helped her immensely as she was building her foundation in the industry.

Something else that sets Emily’s process apart from other agents is her ability to break down the process for potential clients. Her approach is centered on honesty, trust, and giving clients a clear breakdown of the state of the market and the process as a whole.

“After a couple of transactions, I chatted with other agents about their processes and came up with a document where I go through a squiggle of a timeline of real estate and explain the whole process. Sometimes people see that and they’re out, but sometimes they tell me, ‘I’ve never seen it broken down like this’, so that education piece is what really helped me click with people.”

Emily’s honesty also shines through when she’s communicating with clients. She’s perfectly comfortable saying “I don’t know” if a client asks a question she doesn’t have the answer to. But then she’ll utilize the incredible resources at her disposal to figure out the answer. Every Door has an ongoing group chat where agents can ask questions and get quick answers to anything they need. And for big-picture questions about the business, Emily has gotten a ton of help and mentorship from her designated brokers, Jason and Lindsey.

For the moment, Emily’s happy to cast a wide net geographically with her business. She’ll never say no to a client because of their location, but she does love working in areas where she’s lived before. And when looking into the future, Emily would love to increase her referral business. She thoroughly enjoys working with people she knows personally, so growing her business through word of mouth is very appealing.

“It’s just so much more fun when you really like your clients and it’s someone you’re personally invested in.”

Despite her type-A personality, Emily’s not setting any fixed plans for the road ahead and is driven to simply get out there every day, connect with people, and see where life takes her.

Life Outside of Real Estate

Outside of real estate, Emily lives a vibrant life in her Seattle community. She’s been passionate about health and fitness throughout her life, and now teaches six classes per week at Pure Barre Seattle. Beyond fitness, she’s constantly exploring other interests like selling her stained glass art at local fairs, studying to become a pilot, and getting out in nature.

But no matter what she’s up to out in the world, Emily’s always finding ways to share her real estate business with her wider social circles. Although she dabbles in Instagram reels and other official forms of marketing, she loves to share her business with people in person and establish a real connection.

“It’s fun to talk about. Whenever it comes up in conversation, people are like ‘Ooh you have an inside scoop, tell me more!’, so that’s a big part of it too.”
