REAL PRODUCER KRISTIN DEWEY

Owner of Kornerstone Real Estate Brokerage

When you think about Real Estate, what words come to mind? Homes, condominiums, agents? When Kristin Dewey thinks of Real Estate, one word rises above the rest: compassion.

“Every transaction has much emotion to it,”  she says. “No matter if you’re helping clients through a death or divorce, a new baby or a new marriage, I get to come to the table and assure my clients that everything is going to be okay.”

“My goal is to give my clients comfort during these important transactions and to trust that they are in good hands.”

Everyone who knows Kristin will tell you that she’s a caretaker first and a Real Estate Broker second. Where she sees a need in her community, she meets it.

Her caretaking has taken several forms throughout her personal and professional life.

First, after spending her teenage years in Marshfield, Kristin attended Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, which launched her into the catering and restaurant industry. “It was very fun--I just love making people happy!”

“First and foremost, I love people. I love cultivating relationships with clients and building rapport,” she says. “I think it should be a prerequisite for everyone to work in the restaurant business at some stage in life  because it teaches you so much about people, personalities and how to handle difficult situations.”

From there, her career transitioned to Special Event Management for investment banking and private equity firms in Boston.

Eventually, she was inspired to take a leap of faith that opened up the door to more flexibility in her personal and professional life.

In 2006, Kristin acted on a lifelong love for Real Estate and design and embarked on a whole new career working with a large national Real Estate firm managing onsite sales and marketing for new construction multi-unit condominium buildings in the South End and Back Bay. “I loved it and learned so much about construction, floor plans, design and sales”

After the birth of Kristin’s son in 2008 she decided to transition her Real Estate business to the South Shore where she lived and was very involved with the community.

“For many years my father was a huge part of my business. He handled everything from signage to building maintenance to odd jobs and repairs while prepping properties for the market.  He annually delivered holiday packages to clients--which I think was his favorite job of all” she says. “He passed away a couple of years ago, but I have a prominent picture of him in my office to remind me of how he instilled in me the value of hard work and to always have a sense of humor.”

“I had always had a personal goal of obtaining the Broker’s license and opening up my own office,” Kristin says.

So when a property came up in the center of town, she walked through another open door.

“It was a leap of faith, but it ended up being the best thing I ever did for my business,” she says.

Clients and friends know though that Kristin’s personality, her drive, and her generosity are by far and away the best things that ever happened to her business.

Every Real Estate Broker can tell you that being nimble and adaptable is imperative to staying competitive in the business,  and when Kristin juggles buyers, sellers, her own brokerage, and her family life she never loses sight of the most compelling aspect of real estate for her: helping people.

“When you’re in the thick of emotional transactions with people, you’re not just their Realtor, you become family.”

For Kristin, helping people extends beyond her client community. She regularly finds ways to give back to the community through local charities, sponsoring local sports teams and granting scholarships to Marshfield High School graduates.

She hosts a Christmas Party every year at Sunshine Farm Sanctuary in Bridgewater for 100 children living in state-run group homes throughout Eastern Mass. “We arrive with Santa and his elves on a Fire engine with presents, and all sorts of goodies for each child.  “It is my most favorite day of the year,” she says.

When Kristin isn’t guiding clients with empathy or contributing to charities across the South Shore, you can find her spending time with family and friends and her 15-year-old son, enjoying the beach, ocean, river, and boating in Humarock where she feels so fortunate to live.

“My most favorite pastime is watching my son play hockey, and traveling with him to interesting places so he can experience and learn about different cultures and people,” she says.

As for her own real estate decisions, Kristin believes that everything happens for a reason and continues to wear her heart on her sleeve. “A client hired me  to sell their house for them, and I immediately fell in love with it--and purchased it myself”
