TRICIA DUFFEY
For the past two decades, Tricia Duffey has been building two families: her family with her husband and three children, and her family with her real estate colleagues and clients.
“My work friends and clients are part of my family, really,” she said. “When you’ve been doing this for as long as I have, you are selling to multi-generations and creating deep, lasting relationships.”
Tricia has called Scituate home for her entire life. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Hingham and then received a business degree from Saint Anselm College. Her career before real estate took her to Boston for several years, where she worked in advertising at Hill, Holiday, Connors and Cosmopoulos. There, she started as a receptionist and worked her way up to client services for premiere accounts such as Gillette and Bank of America.
When Tricia began her family she decided to do something that could keep her close to home and on the South Shore. She started her own business called Storyland Books, creating personalized children's books that she sold locally in Scituate boutiques. This business fostered her entrepreneurial spirit and the opportunity to hone her sales skills.
Tricia had always been fascinated with real estate for the same reasons that most people are intrigued by the industry. “Of course, everyone loves homes, decorating, and styling,” she says. But her ties to real estate ran deeper. Tricia’s mother had been an agent when she was growing up so they shared that passion. Tricia leaped with both feet to pursue a career selling real estate in Scituate and has been a top producer ever since.
She started with Coldwell Banker, where she spent 15 years. Today, she’s at Jack Conway in Scituate, the town that’s home to 99% of her sales. Being a South Shore-based company with a family feel, Jack Conway is a perfect fit for Tricia.
“All my connections are here,” she says. “This town is really an extension of my family, so Jack Conway in Scituate felt like a natural match.” Tricia and her husband are deeply rooted in Scituate - both were born and raised in the seaside town and they chose to raise their three children, now grown and nearly flown, here. Her love for this town, its people and the surrounding ocean runs deep. Hence, she is passionate about sharing her knowledge and love for her town and all that it has to offer. She thoroughly enjoys bringing clients who are relocating from out of state on a cruise along the cliffs, through Scituate Harbor and past all the beaches in town. “I can convince anyone that Scituate is the place to be.”
Tricia is invested in Scituate and wants to see it continue to evolve and improve. She felt like she could positively impact and give back to the community she knows and loves with Jack Conway and their local connections and reach. “I want to raise money for the local causes and needs that are directly connected to my community.”
Industry insiders know that you only get to the philanthropy part of your career if you’ve made it in real estate, which Tricia has. But she’ll be the last person to act like it.
Tricia’s humility, humor, and down-to-earth demeanor have endeared her to generations of Scituate residents. She’s always honest and completely herself, and people love her for it.
“I’m never going to hide the crazy attempt of balancing work and kids,” she says. “If I show up flustered with my hair a mess because my son took the doors off the jeep minutes before an appointment, my clients will be the first to know,” she jokes.
It’s this air of levity and warmth that has clients inviting Tricia over for a glass of wine to celebrate with them and begin new lasting friendships.
Tricia makes a tough business look effortless.
“I just love being able to be at an open house and meet new people at the door," she says. "That is my comfort zone.” Negotiating skills and client relationships are her strengths.
That comfort and savvy that she’s built over generations has paid off of course, because when push comes to shove, warmth only gets you so far. You need to understand the stakes.
“You have to be totally open and honest. It’s not a reality show, it’s somebody’s most important purchase.”
Her trustworthiness has earned her a raving fan base across Scituate, but her stats are equally impressive: In 20 years, she’s sold more than 300 homes; She’s in the Ambassador’s Club at Jack Conway for the top 1% of agents; She’s been the number one agent in Scituate in single family homes for the past two years; and she’s been in the top five agents in her office for the 13 of her 15 years at Coldwell Banker.
But if you met Tricia, none of that would come up. Instead, you’d hear about her family, her children’s adventures, her husband of twenty-seven years, their two golden retrievers, and their time on the water.
And if you’re lucky enough to be her client, you’d come to appreciate both her savvy and her style—one that’s warm and always 100% Tricia.
