Meet Rising Star Anna Houston
What did you do before you became a REALTOR®?
Before becoming a REALTOR®, my husband, Terry, served in the military as a Blackhawk pilot while I served in ministry wherever the military took us.
Why did you become a REALTOR®?
The transitional lifestyle of the Army provided the best education for understanding the challenges of relocation. It taught me to keep my emotions in check, face the stress of moving head-on, and push forward. More importantly, it gave me a love for the people around me, people from all different walks of life, in all different stages of life, and with all different needs.
Because of these experiences, I wanted to take what I learned and help make the process of finding a home easier for others. But it’s more than that. Knowing how important a unique connection was in each and every new military community (and sometimes how much of a struggle it was), I wanted to help people connect to their new communities as well. I don’t only help people find a home but also schools, doctors, churches, stores and other necessities needed. And hopefully, I may even help them find a friend. I truly get to serve families during what could be a stressful time. If I can make that process less stressful and actually enjoyable? That is what I love.
Who has influenced you the most when thinking of becoming a REALTOR®?
RMG team at Keller Williams! I knew that I didn’t want to start on my own and that I needed coaching and direction. Reed Moore and his team were the perfect fit for me. It’s not just about working with a team like this. It is about a balanced life all around and having a tribe that truly works with me. The love and hustle and laughter ... it’s contagious. You can’t help but let it infuse all areas of your life. My family appreciates that I bring that kind of encouragement home after work.
What are you passionate about right now in your business?
I am passionate about being with and loving on people, and this business keeps me focused with that purpose in mind. God gave me a heart for service, and I love that I can help people find a home.
What was your biggest challenge as a REALTOR®?
Stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something new is overwhelming! All the questions run through my head! Am I going to do well? Am I going to like this style of work? Will I still have family time? I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in the “what ifs” that we forget to step out and just have an adventure.
Tell us about your family and what you like to do together.
I have been married for 21 years to my wonderful husband, Terry. After retiring from the military, he could not stay on the ground for long. He is a pilot for Life Flight and loves his job. We have two daughters, Layla and Lillian. Layla attends the University of Idaho, majoring in business and graphic design, and Lillian, my fifth grader, goes to Valley Christian School. My family runs on faith, humor and laughter. We have no problems living outside the box and enjoying the moments that come, continuing to be thankful to God in all seasons.
Are there any charities or organizations you support?
Our family supports a variety of organizations: (1) Wounded Warrior Project, whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors; (2) Cadence International, dedicated to reaching the military communities in the U.S. and around the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ; and (3) Club Beyond, a military community youth ministry program. These are the military organizations we love to help. In honor of Terry’s flight career, we also support Moody Aviation in its efforts to train missionary pilots, mechanics, or maintenance specialists. Finally, Christmas is my favorite time of the year (I’d even be happy living in a year-round Christmas wonderland), and I would love to share this special holiday with everyone. However, since I cannot “do Christmas” everywhere, I do the next best thing and participate in Operation Shoebox, allowing Samaritan’s Purse to take Christmas around the world for me.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of the business?
FOOD! I love to cook and create in the kitchen. I love getting together with loved ones and gathering around the kitchen. When I am not in the kitchen, I love being in nature. We live in an area ideal for outdoor hikes and exploring. Finding a hiking trail near a river or stream and just listening to life around me makes for a perfect afternoon.
Being new, what advice would you give to someone else that is interested in becoming a REALTOR®?
My advice? Find a team you love! I can’t express this enough. Having people around you that care about not only your success but also about you as a person is vital.
If there is ONE thing you want to be sure the article captures about you as a person, what would that be?
Trust God; be brave; choose joy. One thing just doesn’t do it for me. I need all three.
What do you want to be remembered for?
Loving God and loving others (and shenanigans ... what is life without a few shenanigans?)
