Individually each of us can do remarkable things in the world. But when we aren’t alone in that effort, the result can be limitless … especially when we are accompanied on our journey by a higher power.

Matt Baker is a prime example of that.

As Owner/Agent of Baker Homes & Property Management, Matt is a prime example of what faith and purpose can do for others around him.

“We praise God that everything has worked for us in real estate,” Matt says. “I attribute our growth to God. He is 100% responsible for that.”

Matt’s interest in real estate can be traced all the way back to when he was 11 years old. That’s when he convinced his mother to go with him to a real estate sales meeting. It was a sales seminar. While he didn’t understand everything at that age, he saw enough to know he was interested.

As time went on and Matt came of age, he married his high school sweetheart and they began their family. In 2018, his father passed away. That loss resulted in a new direction.

“I received a check for $350, and I decided to put that toward getting my license,” he remembers. 

Making the transition into real estate can certainly be a challenge, and that was definitely the case for Matt after he earned his license in 2018. But he kept moving forward.

“We praise God that everything worked,” he says.

During his first year and a half in the business, Matt recorded 18 transactions. That was just the start. Since that first year, Matt’s business has experienced 338% growth, including 73% growth last year.  

His focus on doing the little things has created sustained effort and success.

“We’ve never set sales goals. We set service goals so that we stay customer-focused,” Matt says. “I love helping people. We do a lot of ministry. As part of that, we counsel men and married couples through different situations. Our focus is helping people move from one chapter to another in life.”

Today, Matt and his wife, Chala, lead a team of 12 Agents. Chala serves as Broker, while Matt is Team Lead, managing day-to-day operations.

Matt and Chala have extreme pride in their team.

“All Of our agents are vetted to make sure they have the same value system and work ethic that we do. We don't just put on every agent that comes our way. They have to have a mentality of putting others first. And they truly love helping their clients and put others above themselves. There is no competition between them. They all just want what's best for each other and their clients. I've never seen anything like it,” Matt says. “Having such an outstanding team has pushed me to be a better agent. They draw the best out of me all of the time in their pursuit of being the best agents they can be.”

Away from work Matt and Chala share a marriage that has stretched over 22 years. They treasure time with their nine children, who continue to inspire and drive them in all that they do.

In their free time, they like to stay active in the Jeep and off-roading community. In fact, they have led off-road tours in Colorado and continue to have an appetite for enjoying the outdoors. They also like to stay engaged in their church — James River Church.

As Matt thinks about his career and the future, he shares helpful advice for others who are considering getting into real estate themselves.

“First, it’s very important to really know who you are. This is a business that can rob you of your identity,” Matt says. 

“It can be easy for Agents to get wrapped up in real estate being your identity … understanding who you are outside of real estate. We start our meetings with prayer and close them out with prayer. Faith is central to who we are.”

When you talk with Matt, it’s easy to see the way he brings genuine love to people around him. He goes beyond a mere transaction to build a solid relationship.

Matt keeps moving forward with a deep sense of gratitude. 

“What we have is based on what God has done for me,” Matt says. “We’ve done all of this with my wife raising nine children and her going to school. At the same time, we’ve run multiple ministries.”

Truly, Matt, Chala and their team make a tangible impact for their clients and community. And it all starts with a spirit of building with belief.
