From Stay-at-Home-Mom to Real Estate Success

“You don’t have to be the smartest person for this business, you just have to be the most consistent. It’s not flashy––just gotta keep moving and be quick on your feet.”

Born and raised in Virginia Beach, Victoria attended a small college where she studied math and communications. During that time, she and her husband began having children. Victoria welcomed her first daughter at 20 years old and had her second daughter 18 months later. This transition to motherhood also coincided with caring for her sick parents, so she decided to commit to being a stay-at-home mom and caring for her family.

20 years later, her life was more stable and Victoria was ready to embark on a new adventure that would get her out of the house. A friend of hers with a property management company said he was looking for another realtor and she jumped on the opportunity.

“My mom always loved going to look at homes. We were poor so she’d scrape money to go look at these homes and look at the details, just me and her when I was young. That was intriguing for her and I picked up a lot of that in those times. So when my friend said he needed a realtor I knew I could do it from those early experiences.”

The property management position didn’t work out, but Victoria was already committed to kickstarting her new career path. She joined EXP Realty, albeit at a challenging time––just as the world shut down due to COVID-19. However, EXP’s cloud-based brokerage model allowed her to continue her training and education uninterrupted.

Beginning in a swirl of uncertainty and market volatility, her initial real estate experiences were trial by fire. However, her strategic mindset and dedication propelled her to early success.

“I worked with 60 buyers in those first three years and 55 of them got their house on the first try.”

As her business continues to grow and thrive, Victoria emphasizes the importance of her client relationships. She takes the time to really get to know each client and empathize with their personal needs, stresses, and desires. With that approach, each transaction becomes intimate and personal. Ultimately, she gets to know most of her clients very well by prioritizing building great relationships as soon as they start working together.

“My client relationships are everything. Knowing how important it was for them to get where they needed to be and get what they wanted. I always think about mom… the only home she owned was foreclosed on and it was devastating for her. It’s such a personal transaction that you have to be careful with people. You’re dealing with the most they’re ever going to spend and it’s stressful for them, so need to make it as stress-free as possible.”

Victoria recently began building a team and she’s aiming to expand her footprint beyond the local or national market to be a truly international business. As of writing, her team has six people and she’s focused on setting everyone up for success before bringing on more people. She came up with a principle that they’ve all adopted: if someone needs help they first help someone else before asking for what they need.

“We’re all in this together and have the same mission to help people. I want to make sure that people who came first are getting everything they need, are set up to be successful, and we’ll grow from there.”

Despite the odds when she started, all of her hard work has paid off. She won EXP’s Icon Award in her 3rd and 4th years and is looking forward to continuing to build off her success. She now helps train new agents at EXP and also speaks at events to share her knowledge and experience in the industry.

Victoria spends most of her time on real estate, but when she’s not working you can find her at her son’s travel baseball games or spending quality time with family.
