Tom Hall and Kim Brady | Windsor Homes
Built to Last

The year 2001 was marked by several major world events; this was the year of the September
11 attacks, the start of the war in Afghanistan, and Enron filed for bankruptcy. Meanwhile, the US economy was booming, and real estate was leading the way. The median home cost in North Carolina still hovered around $110,000, making affordability reasonable in a thriving economy.
2001 was also the year Tom Hall and his partner, David Howard, founded Windsor Homes. In
the 23 years since, Windsor Homes has earned a reputation as one of the Triad and the North
Carolina Coast’s most well-respected builders. With a focus on spec production building and
best-in-class customer service, Windsor Homes delivers affordability, strong communication, and the problem-solving tact to push projects to the finish line.
We sat down with founder Tom Hall and Chief Operating Officer Kim Brady to hear more about who Windsor Homes is and the benefits the company offers.
Founding Windsor
Tom Hall's path to founding Windsor Homes began with a move to the Triad in 1984, leaving
behind his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, and a short stint in Peoria, Illinois. Tom has been in the housing and development business in the region since. He worked for several local
companies for the first 15+ years of his career. In 2001, a corporate merger caused him to seek
a new direction. That’s when he partnered with David to form Windsor Homes.
Kim Brady joined Windsor Homes in 2002, during its formative period. She began her career as
an estimator and quickly proved to be an indispensable asset.
Reflecting on those early days, Tom recalled, “When Kim came on board, I was trying to do everything. We couldn’t even afford her full-time at first, but she started part-time in
estimating and operations.”
This partnership laid the groundwork for Windsor Homes’ rapid growth, especially during the housing boom leading up to 2007.
“Kim and I and a few other core people had already worked together,” Tom continued. “We picked up what we’d been doing. We had all the skill sets and relationships, and we grew very
fast.”
The Business Today
Windsor Homes has distinguished itself as a builder adept at delivering quality homes at an affordable price while maintaining a smooth, efficient buying process. With a portfolio spanning more than 4,450 homes across over 75 communities, Windsor’s reputation is built on strong relationships, trust, and streamlined operations.
“We market to the real estate world extensively,” Tom said. “Probably 90% of our homes are sold with the buyer having their own real estate agent. We make their jobs easier by handling
contract writing and managing the process through closing.”
Kim emphasized the company’s commitment to easing the process for agents and clients. “We treat the buyer as our customer and handle them as we’d want to be treated. The real estate agent still holds an important role, but they don't need to be as hands-on as they would be in a resale situation.”
Built to Last
One of the aspects of the business Tom and Kim are most proud of is the low turnover at the
employee level. According to Kim, the vast majority of employees have been with Windsor Homes for over a decade.
Although still rooted in the Triad, Windsor Homes has also expanded its reach to the coast.
Tom and Kim see both markets sprawling as populations grow, so their goal is to grow with
the regions they call home.
“We’re not going to change too much or force things,” Tom shared. “If we could do between
300-400 houses year in and year out, we'd be happy.”
“We know where we’re comfortable and what our expertise is,” Kim added. “That’s what makes us so good at what we do.”
