Susan Fowler is an experienced creative who focuses on making her clients feel confident in their photos. Her sincerity and excellence in the way she runs her business, Fowler Studios, play a vital role in creating a tangible memory. Detailed yet efficient, Susan understands how hectic the life of a real estate professional can be, saying, “I like to be the easiest part of their day.”

Fowler Studios provides photos and videos for marketing purposes and for capturing special life moments. “I love creating a library for companies,” Susan adds, commenting about how in her one-to-two-hour sessions, she can provide professional headshots and stock photos specific to the client’s business and brand, which are excellent marketing pieces for websites and social media.

Having had her own negative experiences with photo shoots, Susan puts additional thought into making her clients feel comfortable, embracing their self-critiques and encouraging them to see the “back of the camera” for reassurance that their session is turning out well. She is accommodating and mindful of the intensity of the real estate industry and makes her photo shoots a smooth, enjoyable process.

Incorporating the client’s personality and brand is crucial to Susan. Before the photo shoot, she asks clients to share their main goal, a description of their personality and their favorite location to result in a professional and personalized library of photos and videos. Although getting one’s photo taken can be intimidating, Susan has a friendly and approachable demeanor that puts one at ease. The sessions typically involve a mix of casual and professional poses, and she provides a mix of strong and vague directions, resulting in a wide variety of content.

Fowler Studios, which Susan launched in 2010, is not the only business that Susan owns. She also co-owns Armaloo, an ad agency with her husband, Josh. 

Susan is originally from the mountains of North Carolina and moved to Hampton Roads 13 years ago. “It’s a great place to run a business,” she remarks, having discovered a community of amazing people. One aspect of running a business that this mom of five loves is her flexible schedule. To her, success is having options and choices, and she can pick up her kids in the middle of the day if needed and attend all of their events.

A huge music lover, Susan also loves to sing. Her music taste is eclectic, her favorite genres being folk, pop, rock and acoustic; her go-to artists include Dolly Parton, Jewel, Taylor Swift and Billy Joel. Pottery is another creative outlet for Susan, along with reading books (fiction and nonfiction) and taking Zumba and yoga classes at the gym.

Susan’s compassion and care for her clients are genuine, and her sincerity has been noted multiple times by others. She possesses a joyfulness that translates into the quality of the work she delivers.
