Mark Heitman

Quick Is Not a Favor; It Is a Mindset

“Everything is hard before it is easy.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

For almost three decades, Mark Heitman has worked in the mortgage industry, and he has learned many things: such as the transition from hard to easy and that none of us is smarter than all of us. Fortunately for him and Movement Mortgage, he is in a company that seeks to find ways to say “yes” to loans and that does things very well.

Mark has some crucial and strategic features to his philosophy in the way he approaches business, and as the Marketing Leader for the statewide conglomerate of Movement Mortgage, he is able to recruit and train others who embrace the right values and who labor to build a company that is not only rising but who will become a force in the very near future.

When Heitman was recruited for Movement Mortgage, he told a co-worker that if even half of what he heard about the company was true, it would be an incredible opportunity to join; he found out it was all true. “I think we have the best mortgage lending platform in the industry,” says Mark, “and from the leadership down, the most prized people are the real estate agents and their clients.”

The fundamental rule of the company begins with “never miss a closing date.” The team continues with the mantra of “how can we approve this,” and they create a seamless process that is team-member- and client-friendly. With fourteen loan officers in the state, they are empowered with the same underwriting philosophy. Movement Mortgage knows that by creating a great internal work culture, they ensure that their customers will receive stellar service.

The benchmark formula that the mortgage team uses is 6-7-1, which refers to mortgages that are approved within six hours, processed within seven days and then closed within one day. Of course, with other parties involved, they cannot promise a closing within nine days, but less than two weeks is the norm. The company seeks to also establish clear communication, friendly people to work with and speedy results. Their staff is patient and kind, and customers like the fact that Movement Mortgage explains every facet of the process so that they receive the right information to make an informed and correct decision.

Some customers noted that they even heard from Movement Mortgage on the weekend, and they liked the idea that the company has qualified and experienced people. While the team members are incentivized to meet the deadlines, they do so with pinpoint accuracy and a comprehensive awareness of all details.

For Mark, success is obtaining the satisfaction of the people you serve. He and the team have received a plethora of outward expressions of gratitude from the people they have approved, and knowing that they performed a great job is just one of the rewards they seek. Mark speaks of the symbiotic relationships they form with customers that are long-lasting, and he thinks one of the main reasons for their continued success is their commitment to balance both in life and work.

Coming to Movement Mortgage was a major game-changer in Mark’s life. When he came, he told them that he wanted to test the benefits of the company firsthand, so he decided to process loans for six months to find proof in the pudding. He worked for two and a half months and proclaimed the advantages as real.

One of the key features of the company is its faith-based foundation — values that persist from the top down. Movement Mortgage is the seventh largest company for people who are securing loans, yet their mission statement is born out of their passion for others — saying, “We want to love and value people … ” Forty-nine percent of the company is owned by the Movement Foundation, and that is known for its establishment of charter schools. Over the next eight years, the Movement Foundation wants to establish over 100 schools nationwide.

Mark recently celebrated his 29th anniversary with his wife, Dede, a pharmacist, and they have two children: Braden (22) and Bryce (21). They like to travel, and Mark relaxes through woodworking, specifically building furniture. It helps him to wrap his mind around other challenges that are different from his daily tasks. He would love to revisit Santorini, Greece, someday, and if he had to choose another job, he just might pick junior high football coach.
